Occupywallst is not going anywhere; certainly not anytime soon. You can kick them out of parks and arrest all of ‘em a dozen times. They’ll keep coming back, they’ll keep meeting up somewhere else and likely with more people. Every time you rough up one encampment, another one sprouts up in a different city. This is because by every objective measurement people are fucked out there. This nation is pretty fucked for a lot of people. There is no movement in the government to improve our situation (and certainly not for the lower or middle classes) so why would #OWS stop when nothing has changed? If anything the lack of change proves how right they are in their message.

The reason I explain this to you all is because I’m terrified that this is going to build until a single event, an event where something could happen that none of us wants to even think about. If the police continue to become more and more brutal, more and more intolerant of this protest (which may I repeat, is NOT going anywhere) then there’s only one logical end: protesters being killed. It could be some random hateful cop or a poorly-thought executive order but if we continue down this path it will happen. It could happen from our side but just looking at the history I don’t that see that as likely.

So for once, for once in our existence as Americans can we talk about this, make a change, without there being blood in the streets?

Tents stood for barely an hour when Denver Police ordered the removal of all shelter from the snow storm. Disabled veteran William Hall was forcibly removed from his tent by DPD officers and dragged off for arrest.

There is a continued heavy Denver Police presence at Civic Center Park, and DPD officers have vowed to use their resources to destroy an igloo built by Occupy Denver at 11 PM MST.

The Colorado State Patrol, the Denver Sheriff’s Office and Denver’s police department are devoting significant manpower to the protests to keep crowds under control, costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in overtime…

While the state has yet to release its costs for the protests, the City and County of Denver spent nearly $365,000 through Friday on officer and deputy overtime, as well as park cleanup, according to Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s office…

As for the Occupy Denver costs, Hancock says he’s continuing to monitor the costs, as they will certainly grow with this weekend’s march.

“Right now, I can’t specifically stipulate where it’s going to come from,” he said. “Some departments may say, ‘We can move some things around to help cover the cost of overtime,’ but we’ll see how it all shakes out.”

we went down there saturday night, and there was a TON of swat still there, even though the rally had clearly died down to a group of kids who loved dubstep, and everyone on broadway was settling into sleeping bags and just sitting.
